Tax season goes a lot smoother when you prepare ahead of time instead of scrambling in the weeks before the deadline. Here’s a simple checklist to help you get organized.
Gather your income records. This includes sales records, invoices, and any other documentation of money coming into the business over the year.
Collect your expense receipts. Sort receipts by category (supplies, travel, professional fees, etc.) so they’re easy to hand off or enter into your books.
Reconcile your accounts. Make sure your bookkeeping matches your actual bank and credit card statements before filing. Catching discrepancies early avoids surprises.
Review last year’s return. Looking at your prior year’s filing can remind you of deductions or credits you may have used before and should consider again.
Check in on payroll and contractor payments. If you have employees or paid contractors during the year, make sure those records are complete and any required slips are ready to be issued.
Talk to your accountant before, not after, the deadline. Reaching out early gives you time to plan, rather than just report. It also gives us time to look for opportunities to reduce what you owe, legally and properly.
If you’d like help getting ready for this tax season, we’re here for both individuals and business owners in Concord, Thornhill, and beyond.

As a self-employed contractor, reconciling accounts is always the task I dread the most! This checklist is a great reminder not to leave it all until the last minute.
